County of Grande Prairie Council Highlights July 18. 2011
Public Hearings –
Council gave three readings to
the Bylaw to expand the boundaries of the Hamletof
Teepee Creek. The Hamlet was expanded by
approximately 400 acres.
Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Project –
Executive Director, Brian Brake attended Council
to give an update on the Dan Aykroyd and Friends
Dinosaur Ball being held this coming Saturday at
the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie. Mr. Brake
also sought and received Councils approval to
award the Construction Manager contract to PCL
for the Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Project .
Area Structure Plans –
Council gave third reading
to both the Bacon Area Structure Plan and Mercerbring all
applied research partners in the region
together to work towards improved
communication and establish applied research
priorities within the region in a collaborative
environment. Council agreed to provide a letter of
support to the project.
County Sportsplex –
Council passed a motion to enter into an agreement with Nustadia Recreation Inc. to operate the County’s
Sportsplex for a 10 year period. Nustadia will provide input during the design and construction phase and will then operate the facility once the facility is open to the public later in fall of 2012.
Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Public
Transportation and Public Assistance Grant – 10
local groups were approved to receive
approximately $40,000.00 in funding for operating
Disaster Recovery Assistance – Public Works
Superintendent, Herb Pfau provided Council with
copies of recent submissions to the Province for
Alberta for Disaster Recovery Assistance related to
the significant road damage experienced in the
County due to heavy rain fall events.
Hill Area Structure Plan.
Approach Policy – Council reviewed the County’s
Approach Policy to Private Land and identified
potential updates to the policy. Public Works was
directed to bring the updated policy back for
further discussion and acceptance.
Municipal Historic Resource – Council gave three
reading to a Bylaw to establish the Buffalo Lakes
Community Hall as a Municipal Historic Resource
within the County of Grande Prairie.
Agriculture, Food and Fiber Applied Research –
Bruce Rutley from the Centre for Research and
Innovation attended Council to provide
information and seek a letter of support from
Council for a project to create a joint initiative to
Accredited Supportive Living Services Limited –
Council will provide a letter of support for a
project proposed in the City of Grande Prairie for
supported living services. Accredited Supportive
Living Services Ltd. is an organization which
provides services and support to individuals with
Beaverlodge Fire Department Request – Council
agreed to pay half the cost to a maximum of
$19,000.00 to purchase a breathing air
compressor for the Beaverlodge Fire Station.
Mutual Aid Upon Request – Fire Chief, Everett
Cooke advised Council that the County’s
Clairmont Fire Station is now in a position to
provide mutual aid upon request to neighbouring
